Empower Individuals through Health IT to Improve Health and Health Care

 

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) wants public input to update the Federal Health IT Strategic Plan. This Plan outlines goals and strategies for the nationwide shift to electronic health records and information exchange, and for creation and spread of new health information technologies. On this site, you can learn about these issues and be part of the public discussion that will shape the new Plan. From now through May 9, 2013, the topic for discussion is Consumer eHealth. Whether you’re a patient, consumer, provider, insurer or IT developer, you should have a voice in this process!

  • June 5, 2013 - Next Steps in Updating the Federal Health IT Strategic Plan: The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) thanks everyone who commented and followed the Planning Room discussion on the Consumer eHealth goal topics. ONC will carefully consider your comments as it updates the Consumer eHealth goal and other Plan goals this year. You will have more opportunities to provide input on the Plan and its objectives. Stay informed by signing up to receive an email notification of the next Planning Room discussion.     May 8, 2013 – Last Day to Comment – Please take a few minutes to fill out this SHORT survey about your Planning Room experience, it should take less than 10 minutes. Your answers help the Cornell research team improve users’ experience on Planning, and better understand how to recruit and motivate more people to participate in government policymaking. To show our appreciation for your help, ten people who respond by June 1 will receive a $10 gift certificate to Amazon.com.

    March 25, 2013 – Updating the Federal Health IT Strategic Plan: The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) wants public input to update the Federal Health IT Strategic Plan. This Plan outlines goals and strategies for the nationwide shift to electronic health records and information exchange, and for the adoption and meaningful use of new health information technologies. Whether you’re a patient, consumer, provider, insurer or health IT developer, you should have a voice in this process! ONC has partnered with researchers at Cornell University to provide Planning Room, a website that makes it easy for you to learn about what ONC is thinking and offer your thoughts, experiences, and suggestions. The Cornell team will moderate the discussion, which ONC will follow and carefully consider when drafting the revised Plan. The first topic for discussion is “Empower Individuals through Health IT to Improve Health and Health Care.” This topic is open for discussion through May 9, 2013.
